Am I Goofy or Regular? Tell me which foot you put forward. A very important point in surfing is your stance, so from the very first moment it’s important that you find it in the best way to quickly catch your first waves. ?♂️?♀️
Your stability will depend a lot on the positioning of your feet on the surfboard and which one you put in front of the other.
So you get to the question: “Am I Goofy or Regular?
If you put your right foot forward you’re Goofy;
If you put your left foot forward you’re Regular;
Our surf instructors use some exercises to understand which style suits our students better. You can see one of the tests they do in the video of this post.
If you haven’t yet determined which is your front foot, you can do a simple exercise to find out:
Standing on an object not too high, ask a friend to touch your back and identify the foot that you put immediately forward to stabilize you when you touch the ground. Usually, this will be the foot to put in the front of the surfboard.
If you have ever skated or snowboarded, the front foot will be the one you used in these sports.
These styles are both correct and nothing stops you to switch, if you feel more comfortable, the most important thing is that you have fun surfing.
